Teen Drivers...

Should teens receive cars when they turn 16 years of age? Is it fair that parents must pay several hundred to thousands of dollars more per year on car insurance if they insure their teens? Some states are even raising the minimum age for obtaining driver's licenses to 18; while some have lowered the minimum age to 15. Which is best? Which do you prefer? How do you feel about drag racing?

I think kids should be able to get their licence at 16. I dont think it is fair to the responsible kids that actually do respect the rules to raise the age up to 18. They should just enforce the law more and have police out so they can get the people who are drag racing and going way over the speed limit. I dont think the insurance thing is fair. They are just trying to get money.

Nice post m=]
I like the idea of responsible kids getting their license at even 15! I lived in MS for a while and my very responsible 15 year old was able to get her license. She helped me out so much by running errands for the family when her father & I were otherwise occupied. Thanks for posting!

I am for kids driving at 16. 15 is too you young and 18 is near adult hood. Driving is a responsiblity!! Kids need responsibilities because it makes them seem more mature, as well as bring them closer to the adult world, and learning how to grow up. However, Teen drivers who drink and drive are making the rest of us look bad. Which is unfair and I personally dont want my privileges taken away.

i definately think the driving age should be raised. the more mature you are, the more responcibilities you can handle. If your emotionally and mentally unstable, as most teenagers are, you have no control over your life, your vehicle, and the other drivers lives are at stake as well as your own.

rI think the driving age should stay at 16. i got mine when i was 16 and i dont race or do other things that may put others in danger i dont think just because other teens race everyone should get punished because some teens need to drive to high school like i did i live in fontana and went to school in ontario if i didnt have my licence how would i have gotten to school

I believe that teens the age of 16 shouldn’t be allowed to own their own cars. Having a car is a major responsibility and it is the matter of life and death. I believe the best age to obtain a license is the age of 17, there is no point for a 16 year old to drive, yes they can help out their parents with errands but they can’t do much. You can’t vote until your 18, if the 16 year olds want to change a driving law they have no say in the matter because their opinions won’t make a difference. Even though there are some very mature teenagers, some shouldn’t be allowed to drive, driving is a privilege and it can cause death, one slip of the foot can cause major damage and can change people’s lives forever. I would prefer to have the driving age be 17, where teenagers are becoming more aware of their surroundings and become more alert and have the common knowledge of soon to be adults. Drag racing is a very dangerous growing trend, many lives have been taken away due to races gone wrong. No one should ever be pressured into racing their cars just to look cool and feel special, racing is for the professionals not kids who have no experience in it.

I think the getting your license at age 16 is good. You are in high school at that time and it is more than okay to drive. I think it makes it easier on the parent's, espcially if you have more than one child attending the same school, and you have to study and take driving classes so you know what you are doing.

Yes teens should get cars when they are 16, but strictly only if they are ready and mature enough. Starting the driving age at 16 is good because they will improve their motoring skills quickly as compared to getting your license later on in life. Its convenient for parents because the teen wont be asking for rides as often and it teaches a sense of responsibility. As far as drag racing goes i think think it should only be done at an appropriate track. its unsafe to be driving fast on public roads. and at the track any car is able to race and you can go as fast you can without any hassle.

I think its absolutely fair to raise the age of getting a license to 18. The fact that parents need to pay more for insurance only proves that there are so many irresponsible young drivers that take the opportunity of beginning to drive and turn it into a game. And im talking about drinking and driving, and especially partying. Teens need to be at a higher level of maturity to own a car of their own. Drag racing is another
"game" teens have fun with, it mostly relates to boys for this matter and they do it to feel superior and because its fun. Its just another reason to ruin it for the younger crowd who really do handle driving with care and need to move on in their life.

Some kids are defetnely not ready to have a licence. They are not matture enough. They are still kids. And in a little while some get influnce to do stupid things. They think speeding is cool. I think they should hold on to be a little older so they can be matture and be more responsible.

i think the age to get a licence should be atleast up to 18. Because the mayority of accidents are younge teenagers. Not necessarily racers or any of that, just regular teenagers that think that they are ready but they really arn't.

16 is a good age to get a licence driving. They are allowed to get a job to keep themselves busy and start to make their own money. Maybe not a brand new car but a decent car for them to get around without their parents having to take them everywhere. They could even drive themselves to school, home from school, to work, after school activities such as sports or clubs. Not all driving is just a chance for kids to goof off and at the age of 16 they can't even drive with any friends. 18 is just too old for someone to barely be doing things on their own and at 15 thats a little too young. Some kids are actually responsible with driving and deserve the right to drive on their own. I think drag racing is dangerous. Driving at such a high speed is so unneccesary its for transpertation not for games.

I believe that if kids are mature enough to be able to control themselves in an automobile, they should be allowed to drive. It is fair that if a kid wants to have a car at the age of 16 and he or she is very responsible then there should be no problem. Now about the drag racing, even though i might be a speed demon, there should not be any drag racing, not for competition at least. if someone where to race, it is their responsibility to make sure they do not hurt anyone in the process.

In my opinion I do think thw age off having a driving licence should be raised to the age of 18 because the older you are the most wise you are ...and you know that you have to be mature enough and know what you are doing ...not only that but that means you are old enough and will no longer depend on your parents to pay for the damages you have done

I really like the idea of driving at 15 because i got my first car when i was 16 and did not get into any accidents. Although my mom had to pay more for insurance it was a relieve to her that she didn't have to take anyone to school anymore.

I think they should raise the age til 18. I just think your more responsible. Its said that most accidents are by teens.. it would save more money on insurance if your older and plus i think it takes away the bonding time you have with your parents if you driving at 15 or 16

honestly i don't think teens should drive at the age of 16 because they get distracted a lot such as texting and driving or drunk driving. they are not experienced drive and most accident occur at the age of 16.
