Is college a necessary step for all high school graduates? Do we really need college in order to make a living? Does our geographical location make a difference? The cost of living is higher on the East Coast, in Hawaii and parts of the West Coast...so more money is needed in these areas to sustain a living....give me your thoughts!

For some kids college might not be the right choice for them. Even thought it's a solid back up plan just in case your career fails, some kids don't need it necessarily.
Thank you for your comment Anonymous. We appreciate your honesty and we agree.
College is definately not a necessary step for all high school graduates, but for most, it is. I feel like if I knew than, what I know now, I would have went straight to college after graduation. But the fear of the unknown, and selfish, unexplained reasons i moved forward with my life without school. And here I am, where i should have been 4 years ago.
To me college is a very necessary step after high school. From what I've heard and seen you do need a degree to live the "good life." Nothing comes easy. You have to work for what you want. With todays society not having a college degree is asking for failure.
for some kids college is just not for them. although i believe it is good to go to college you can achieve some goals without a college degree or even no college at all. in this day of economy i think college is somewhat necessary because of the price of living. but also people who are less qualified are more likely to be hired by a company because i believe they will work for lower wages and that will save the company money.
College is a necessary step for everyone not just high school graduates. This economy these days a college degree is a need in order to make a living. Many small businesses require a college degree for employment, and having one does improve your living of life. Geographical location also makes a difference, having to live in the most expensive locations does make it more difficult to live at peace. Having to survive in our world these days does require having a high level of education, especially with the low number of jobs now days. I feel that this is getting out of hand, the young adults who have recently graduated out of high school and are in need of making some money for school and their expenses have no possible way of getting hired, the work force is getting very thin with the availability and requirements.
I don’t think college is absolutely necessary in order to make a decent living. Although, it will probably benefit high school graduates to take that next step and continue on to college. I’m not sure how much cost of living actually affects a college student, but I don’t think it will make that big of a difference if that student receives financial aid.
If high school graduates are given the opportunity to build a career with a company that will provide job security and stability for many years to come, college may seem unnecessary to that graduate and that student may take the chance of making a living without college.
I think college is important. You need to be educated but you can learn a lot from starting from the bottom and working your way up the latter. Hands on learning and working with people. Being trained to do a job works just fine. But there is always more to learn. I took almost 9 years off school after graduating high school and am now ready to better myself so college is the place for me to do so.
I don't belive college is for everyone. I have family members that didn't go to college and they earn a good living. I belive its not just good being book smart but also life smart.
i honestly think college is a necessary step for high school graduates because it expands peoples options towards what area of interest they want to pursue in the future as a career. Furthermore, students in college get to learn who they really are because they discover what they truly enjoy.
Yes college is a necessary step and especially for high school graduates. When things were going well at my previous job there was talk that the hr department were no longer considering to hire candidates with associates degrees. They were looking for a bachelors degree or higher , that speaks volumes. At this point with the way the economy is I don't believe geographical location makes a difference. I believe it has more to do with getting a job, if you have one establish job security for yourself if possible, and save money.
I feel that the choice to go to college right after high school is not always a "necessary" step, but at the same time, you can't get away from the influence to go right away because constantly throughout your junior and senior years of high school teachers, peers, and counselors are consistantly asking "have you taken your psat" , "what college do you want to go to" , and having a week-long college week wear you have to wear college gear that entire week, and even saying things like " you need good grades to pass this class and get into college"; it just seems as if the thought of it being "necessary" to go to college right after high school is almost pressured on by peers rather than the choice being yours, well I feel my school did that! I know many people who are in college now, who feel it is a waste of time, but they are just going because they feel like "thats what they're supposed to do" in order to get into the real world or have a "good" job, but the real question is, "is that what they want for themselves?" I know it is what I want, but everyone is different!
College isn't a nessassary step for all high school graduates but it is probably best to go to college after high school. I think we do need college to make a living, more now than before. My dad and my mom didn't go to college and we live okay but some of my cousins that just graduated have not attended college and don't plan too. Life is really hard for them, they can't get good jobs because they don't have college degrees or they get lower pay than someone with a degree. One of my cousins have been told by his boss to go back to school and that he would get a raise but he does not listen and struggles paying for his apartment. College does make a difference and helps a lot when trying to make a living.
I definitely believe that college is a critical part of success in life. You cannot be successful if your not prepared, we live in a society where you are measured based on a piece of paper (Degree) . Look at today’s big accomplishments; if Steve Jobs would not have been prepared would he have accomplished so many things in life? Bottom line we hold our own future and if we (Our self’s) don’t want to be successful in life then we have just set the bar low for us to be just followers in life instead of leaders.

In my opinion I don't think college is really necessary for all high school graduates, but for the majority it is since its the only way to achieve a career they desire. The reason why I think it is not necessary for all high school graduates is because not all want to be something in life that requires college studies. For example, my older brother didn't go to college and he started to do a job of painting and he started by painting small offices or house but now he paints for hotels and bigger things and since he is a great artist sometimes they tell him to draw something and he is getting well paid for it. He didn't go to college but he is doing a job in which he enjoys doing. Although for most of us we rather go to college because of the career path we chose we need to keep studying more.
In my perspective, college is very necessary after high school. Now a days getting paid minimum wage may possibly get you by but may not have enough money for anything extra. Why not get school out of the way while you are young so when you get older and get a real job you wouldn't have to work as hard and be more successful with your degre. Especially since now a ways everything is getting more expensive why not get a higher paying job to help support you and posibly a family.
i think that getting a colege degree after high school is a necerssary especially for women.most people who are on this blog are in college and we all know how many people that are way older than all of us and are coming back to college now, because they know how much they missed up in there life by skipping college. i know i came to this country for education only and after i get it im going back to my country and work with my degree; however, thats my parents dream not mine im planningon staying here and use my degree in the country that i earned it in.
In my opinion, I feel that college is a necessity after you get out of highschool,so you can progress and start working on your future..Besides you can experience what is in the real world and the possibilities you can accomplish for yourself. Just in case, you don't have to look back and have regrets of not going..However its not ever to late to go back no matter what age you are, than again it's my opinion..
I feel that college is a necessary step for all high school students. I feel that earning a degree can give you a great sense of accomplishment. Not everyone will get some high paying job right away because it takes time. But many can and will be successful. I am encouraging my teen daughter to pursue college after high school and that time is not very far. I myself am going to college to try an obtain a degree in nursing.I didn't go to college right after high school and now i'm paying the price of having a family, working full-time and going to school at night. I currently work in a kitchen and have been there 10 years and make over $20 an hour but I want a career and my husband tells me I have golden handcuffs because I won't leave the pay and benefits. If I was single I think I would be able to make a living off of my pay. I was young when I started and loved the pay but now I am wanting something else in life which is what I always wanted to do which is be a nurse. So with that I tell my daughter to get her degree first and then see where it lands her. She wants to do crime scene investigating and I am behind her all the way. Degree = more money, higher job title
i believe that the place you live will determine how expensive life will be. but i also elieve coolege is the key any where u live. the key to success and beter life and future for yourself and your family.
In my opinion college isnt necessary for every high school student after they graduate. Most of the students that graduate dont even want to go to college, they feel pressured and feel the need to please their parents or have the parents be proud of them
I believe college is good to help keep you educated so your brain isn't fried for too long after high school. But for some students college isn't for everyone. Especially if you didn't do well in high school. College is only 3x harder. It is a good route to keep you smarter AND a nice plan b if your first option isn't working out
College is definitely a privilege, having an education can benefit a person in so many ways. However, college is not the only way to success. there are countless people who made it fine in life even though they do not have a college level education. Although, having that level of education can only help you. And most of the time it helps you way more that someone can possibly imagine. College also can be used as a backbone to help you navigate into a solid career.
Yea college is necessary if want a brighter good making money future.. i am a college student. And applying for college was one of the best choices i made. I didnt want to have to struggle when ive gotten older because ive seen what the struggle was like with my parents.. college is necessary you will more likely to get hired at any job rather than someone who havent went to college
Sometimes i dont understand people, they have the chance to go to college with all the help they may need free money, and many other things that they could get just because they are USA, Citizens . and others are struguling to go to college because they cant afford college or because they cant go in etheir because they arent legal or because they really cant but college is the biggest inversion in your life if you have the money or not...
